Go Consult Workshop Calendar 2011/2012 (111k)
Legalities Series - Contracts

Business revolves around contracts. These two seminars build on our SCC "Legalities" workshop to provide participants with a good working knowledge of typical small business contracts.

Taught by SCC facilitator and former lawyer Barry Dwernychuk, these two courses cover topics including intellectual property, statutory issues, dispute resolution, plain English drafting, exclusions and waivers.

Contracts Part 1 Beyond the "4 Ps"
You’ll learn how to write basic agreements using the 4 P’s?" Parties, Product, Price, Performance?" the fundamental elements of a contract.
We’ll discuss drafting complex contracts, MOU’s (Memorandum of Understanding), letters of agreement, statutory issues and resolving contract disputes. You’ll understand when you need the services of a lawyer.

Contracts Part 2 Intellectual Property, Exclusions, Waivers and Privacy
What do these terms mean and when are they used? If you’re selling your knowledge and expertise, learning what is necessary to protect your intellectual property and privacy will be invaluable.

Legalities Series - Negotiating

Designed specially for Go Consult, these workshops are taught by former trial lawyer Barry Dwernychuk, a successful businessman and SCC grad. They incorporate the essentials of business negotiating as developed and taught at the Harvard School of Business. As a contractor or consultant, your ability to negotiate terms suitable to your business needs is critical to your success.

Negotiating is part of doing business. This series of four seminars will provide you with the basic concepts and skills you need to be a better negotiator.

Negotiating Part 1: Negotiation Concepts, Principles & Terminology
Negotiating is like playing a game of hockey. To play the game well, you need to understand the rules. When you understand how the game is played, you increase the likelihood of winning! You’ll have an opportunity to practise what you have learned.

Negotiating Part 2: Avoiding Common Negotiation Pitfalls
By keeping these in mind, you’ll keep things moving in the direction you want them to, that is, toward closing the deal. You’ll have an opportunity to practise what you have learned.

Negotiating Part 3: Preparing to Succeed: Planning your Negotiation Strategy
Negotiating is part science and part art. At each stage of the process, you’ll be faced with several options: learn how to proceed with confidence. You’ll have an opportunity to practice what you’ve learned.

Negotiating Part 4: Negotiation in Action: Practice makes perfect!
By now, you’ll be having fun and will experience confidence in your new-found ability as a negotiator.

Colin will give you a proven set of steps that will get you asking the right questions, qualifying the opportunity, and communicating your value in the most effective way.

Sales Part 3 Pricing your Service
You understand what your client needs and how you can solve their problem. You’re ready to write a proposal, but are not confident in your pricing. Colin will show you different pricing strategies that are working in today’s market, and how to effectively present them to clients so they sign off feeling good about the investment.

Sales Part 4 Closing the Deal
You have done your homework, asked all the right questions, and crafted a proposal your client should jump at. But you know it’s never that easy. Learn simple but effective closing techniques that are comfortable for any consultant to put into practice, and that will lead to more sales closing at a faster rate.

Sales Part 5 Follow Up
It’s important to understand two things about potential clients…they will ultimately make the decision to hire you on their timetable, not yours…and most prospects will not take the initiative in calling you back when they do need you. That’s why it is critical to have a strong follow up process for your business so you ensure that you are there when your client needs you. A strong follow up applied consistently generates more business for you.
